National Training Awards (NTA)
National Training Awards celebrate and share excellence in practice. Identifying how employers, providers, partnerships and individuals have applied learning and development in order to create impact and achieve success. Winners will share practice and inspire others to invest in learning and development as a route to being world class.

The Strategic Aims of NTA are:

  • to promote the development of skills as a key lever for the UK and global economy
  • to raise standards and improve organisational and individual performance and productivity
  • to improve leadership, understanding and skills to utilise the transformational potential of learning
  • to celebrate excellence in practice and use this to inspire others
  • to recognise and promote learning and development that is demand-led and meeting the needs of the business, employers and individuals.

In order for us to meet these aims NTA is based on a range of robust and fair judging and assessment processes, a great strength within this is the experience and knowledge that we are able to draw from across our judging panels. The role of the NTA Judge is both challenging and rewarding, and through a process of judgement and debate panels are able to identify award winners as well as offer detailed feedback to all entrants.

CATEGORIES
Within NTA 2010 there are seven categories of Awards:

Large, Medium and Small Employer Awards these Awards seek to acknowledge and celebrate employers' commitment to training and development and how this is creating impact and achieving success.
Partnerships and Collaboration Award this Award seeks to acknowledge and celebrate collaboration in practice and through applying a collaborative approach is creating impact and achieving success.
Providing Education and Training Award this Award seeks to acknowledge and celebrate a provider's commitment to offering a quality training and development service and how this is creating impact and achieving success.
Individual Award this Award seeks to acknowledge and celebrate an individual's commitment to training and development and how skills based improvement is creating impact and achieving success.
Now Is The Time Award this Award seeks to acknowledge and celebrate excellent training which has effectively enabled an organisation to combat the effects of the global economic downturn and survive the recession.

THE ASSESSMENT AND JUDGING PROCESS
All entries are initially assessed by a trained assessor team and following a process of moderation a number of entries are passed through to each of our regional judging panels. We have 12 judging panels covering England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland. All Judges read, score and debate the entries. Each panel meets twice and those entries deemed to be potential winners are visited by members of the judging panels. UK Skills value this voluntary judging role and endeavour to provide the support and reward at all stages of the process.

AWARD LEVELS
Following the on-site visits and at the second panel meeting Judges further debate the entries and make a number of Regional Awards. From the regional winners the Judges can select a maximum of 1 UK National Training Award winner in each category. All UK winners then go on to a UK panel where an overall winner of year for 2010 in each category is decided.

WHAT IS IT LIKE TO BE AN NTA JUDGE?
Previous NTA Judges have declared that being part of a judging team is both challenging and rewarding. It creates the opportunity to read about and visit a number of learning and development programmes in action. Certainly within the winning entries it is possible to see just how learning and development can make a difference and the impact and benefits can be motivating as well as inspirational.
