Ambassadors - South West
I know summer is with us (which is excellent) and we lost the football (not so good), but please don't forget National Training Awards. We are all very busy at this time of year watching and waiting while the judges go out to visit entrants and talk to them about their training schemes. This is an essential part of the process and one which entrants and judges really find a true privilege and a pleasure.
To have someone enthuse about a piece of learning which they are very proud of is exciting and we can envisage the entrant on the winner's podium at the Regional Ceremony. However, the entrants still have a long way to go as the judges must come back to a second panel meeting with all the other volunteer judges and although they can give awards to unlimited numbers of Regional winners, to win a National is much harder. There is only one winner in each category in the SW, so sometimes there are big debates at panel as to who is the most deserving.
The Regional Ceremony will be held on Tuesday 19th October in Bristol, very definitely a date for your diary. It would be a pleasure to see you there, and I'll have more information about tickets nearer the time. We still have regional ceremony sponsorship available. Please get in touch with the Awards office should you wish to get involved.
I'll also be in touch with all Ambassadors very soon about a meeting for us all in September. It will be good to have a get together much earlier this year so that we can plan for raising entry numbers next year. I would also like to know about any regional events/conferences which NTA can be promoted at. At date will follow.

Magnox South nuclear power station workers have been reskilled, through self-delivered training that supported delivery of decommissioning projects resulting in savings of millions of pounds in efficiencies.
Robert Kury, site director, Magnox South, says: "The worker/trainer programme has played a significant role in meeting the challenges and opportunities that occur during transition from generation to defuelling and throughout decommissioning. Staff, committed to project delivery, have shown diligence, determination and flexibility in their pursuit to acquire new skills and become more competent in their use of innovative decommissioning techniques to achieve cost-effective delivery for the customer."
